Are you an early bird or a night owl? Or neither one of them? I believe these labels do not necessarily define how conscientious we are as a person.
I consider myself a morning person. I wake up early so I can focus on doing my tasks and being active during the day. I also pause myself from hours of feverish activities and have a rest as soon as sundown.
It requires more than just waking up early to be a morning person. If we have to, I believe everybody could wake up at 5 a.m. Therefore, what we are doing first after we woke is crucial because it will design our entire day.
I always scrupulously go through my morning route and it has become one of my best habits. By following my morning routine, I receive a sense of readiness for going through the day.
Becoming a morning person has helped me to feel completely prepared. I can plan my activities for the day, which has encouraged me to be more organized.
Sometimes, when I feel disheartened about my routine, it takes me a lot of effort just to get up from bed. But, I manage to free myself from indulging in that disquieting thought for far too long.
Looking back, I wanted to be a morning person so I could be a better person. And here I am, the journey to be a morning person has transformed me into an improved version of me.
To reach the goal, you need to ask yourself the reason. By doing this, you can put yourself together and get back on track.
It sounds easier said than done, right?
To assist you with this journey, I want to share my five tips to help you start your morning routine and be more productive.
These steps were useful when I tried to establish my morning routine. It also still helps to encourage me and keep me motivated.

1. Start with the most important thing: YOU
Put yourself first before anything else and understand what makes you happy in the morning are the first steps to motivate yourself and start the new routine.
As for me, I will get up and having a glass of water to keep myself hydrated after seven hours of sleep. After that, I send a good morning text to my loved ones, telling them to have a nice day.
Starting the routine with the activities we consider important will make the process easier.
Also, doing positivity in the morning will gently disconnect us from the worriedness we’re unknowingly having. It also helps us from the negative thoughts that may distract us from enjoying the day.
Saying hello to our loved ones first time in the morning and wishing them a nice day will give us more than just a warm feeling. This simple interaction will significantly affect how we presume the rest of the day.
I believe we will also receive good things if we wish the same for others! Try it!
2. Be Present and Less Screen Time in the Morning
Let’s be honest, checking out social media right after we wake up is very tempting. We feel that we may miss a lot of information if we are not checking them right away.
But let’s put it this way, think about the time we voluntarily waste just by scrolling down our feeds and stories. We are just wasting our precious time without noticing the importance.
Now believe this, I totally get it because I feel the same. But I was, and am still, trying my best to avoid it and I can manage it better now.
Instead of looking at your screen, I think it would be more essential to have a silent, peaceful moment with yourself before starting the day.
You can do this by having a comfortable sitting position, then close your eyes if you feel like to, take a deep breath, and say thank you with every inhales and exhales. Do this for five minutes or as long as you like. I find it to be a great method to have some peaceful moments with myself.
If you don’t feel this method won’t work for you, you can try a morning walk to feel the morning breeze while bare-footed so you can fully feel nature. This method has helped me to re-motivate myself and be more clear-headed, focused, relaxed, and grateful. So, give it some shot and I guarantee that you will love it!
3. Exercising
I always encourage people around me to do a quick exercise in the morning. Even if it’s just for five minutes, it would be better than one hour a week if you’re doing it every day.
I have been doing morning exercise for a year and a half now and the impact on me is real and significant.
I can feel a huge difference in my body after I maintain daily exercise. I feel more energetic, positive, healthier, and refreshed. I hardly catch any illness and it improves my sleeping quality. Morning exercise also improves my mood and alleviates anxiety and negative thoughts.
I think the hardest part is maintaining your exercise, not starting it. I would love to share my experience on how to do it consistently in my next article. For now, I suggest you find a workout that suits you the most. Remember, keep it simple and short and just enjoy it because it will have an impact on your body!
4. Prepare a Wholesome Breakfast
For me, this is the most exciting morning routine because I love breakfast! It just feels right to have a wholesome breakfast after exercising to get an energy boost.
I prepare breakfast in only five to ten minutes, easy yet healthy. My go-to breakfast is creamy smoothies with big chunks of fruits and seeds or a cup of warm tea and bread.
5. Make a To-do List
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by just thinking you may have to finish many tasks on the next day? Moreover, you are unsure which task you need to complete first?
I’m sure it will make you anxious. To be honest, I have been feeling distressed for these past couple of weeks due to work circumstances.
It has messed up with my sleep pattern and I have sensed something wrong. So, I need to figure out the problems and redress them. After some deep thoughts, I found my anxiety is caused by my disordered tasks and new projects.
To handle this, I have to:
a. Make a list of task and projects to finish
b. Set priority
c. Write the timeline
At first, you will feel overwhelmed by disorganized tasks until you break them down and set priority. By organizing them, you will find the proper patterns to eventually complete these tasks.
Usually, I will make a to-do list in the morning or the night before to set priorities, which will make my work more manageable.
Those are my daily morning routine. If you have different routine, please share them in the comment. It will help everyone to find and establish their morning routine.
